TIPS FOR RESEARCH PROPOSAL PRESENTATION

Assalamualaikum,

I've been procastinating on a lot of things lately, not because I was lazy (I think), but I had so many things to do for the past few days since my mock research proposal presentation last week. Syukur, Alhamdulillah. It went well.

The comments from my supervisor and co-supervisor were:
- I had monotonous voice
- I had less confidence when I present something that I don't really know
- I need to read more for better understanding
In summary,  I need to polish my skills for the presentation!!!!

But, I am sssoooooooo glad that I didn't have to do many changes for the slide presentation. So, I would like to share here so that I will remember forever, "What are the tips for a good slides of research proposal presentation?

1. A "Table of Contents"
Usually in the thesis, there is a page with this title of "Table of Contents". There is no need for this page in the research proposal presentation. But, you still have to list them out. This is because, the headings and the subheading of the Table of Content will become the title for the slides.

Basically, the list will look like this:
1. Introduction
2. Literature review
3. Problem statement
4. General objective
5. Specific objectives
6. Methodology
7. Dummy tables
8. Expected outcome
9. Gantt chart
10. References

The slides will be clear to us and also to the audience. It is more organized this way.

2. A picture is worth a thousand words
Almost 70-80% of my slide presentation content were illustrated by figures, photos, tables and charts. Based on my experience while doing Master degree, I realized that the audience came from many different backgrounds. Thus, research proposal should be scientific but at the same time understandable to the audience.

Note: If we don't want the audience to ask so many questions, then, we should explain everything but keep it simple so that it shows:
i. We know what we are talking about
ii. We look confident enough about our study
iii. We are sure what we are going to do

So, let's put colours and pictures in the slide presentation. :)

3. Dummy tables
During our research methodology course recently, the spekers told us to have Dummy Tables in the research proposal so that, we really know what are the datas that we should collect in our study. From my understanding, a dummy table is an empty table of the results but it is the table as if you want to put in the thesis later on. I think it is good to have these dummy tables. It showed not only what data to be collected but also, the statistical tests we will be using to analyse our data too.

I think, that's all for now.
Hope I'll remember always the tips that I have shared here. Arasso...

ALHAMDULILLAH

Alhamdulillah!
Thanks for your doa...

"Ya Allah! Aku bersyukur padaMu. Berikanlah keputusan yang sama atau lebih baik lagi buat thesis suamiku yang masih dengan external examiner. Kau Maha Mengetahui Lagi Maha Berkuasa. Amin... "

BLOGGING vs PUBLISHING

It had been quite some time since I write in the blog. I enjoyed the picture taking using my new smartphone, and i love editing them using the free Apps. Already created another blog just for the album.. Hihi

PUBLISHING
Well, I've submitted my thesis and the internal examiner had already corrected it and gave few comments. There is a long to-do-list before my next meeting with my supervisors. To write a few:
1. Abstract for Best Basic Science Poster Award
2. Articles on honey
3. Articles on viscosupplements
4. Do thesis correction
And so on.....

Recently, I presented orally at 1st IIUM PG Research Conference 2012. One of the speakers said:"In academia, you need to publish".

So, I need to write good articles and chapters in books! But before I embark into that, I browsed into the journals.

I found a website of a professor being journal editors, sending articles to high impact factors journals, ISI and SCOPUS listed journald only! MasyaAllah, to see the number of articles he had published, almost 150 publications...

I wonder if I can become a writer and publish my work soon?
But I must!
And I will!!!
InsyaAllah, you'll find your wayyYyyy (Maher Zain).

May Allah guide me and my husband...

BLOGGING
I have a new chat friend. She is so poetic or "jiwang" is the more appropriate word to be used here. Hihi. Well, my husband was making fun of the jiwang words.

Last night, I clicked the archives, and read my old posts in the blog. I was a "jiwang" blogger myself, I told my husband. Hihi.

So, I was a writer, a "jiwang" one.
InsyaAllah I can become a "scientific writer" soon. Amin!

Make du'a for me!!! And my hubby!! ;)

THESIS TEMPLATE WORKSHOP

Alhamdulilllah,

After I submitted my final draft thesis for correction to my main supervisor, I managed to handle a workshop and introduced to them "an easy semi automated thesis template intergrated with IIUM thesis manual (beta version)". I found it very difficult for me to explain my work. Oh my! How can I be a good lecturer if I'm not good at lecturing? How can I present my research to the Kulliyyah and (lucky for us not having any viva, but if i do, how can I face that situation?)

Rabbish rahli sodri wayassir li amri...

I'm not sure whether they could understand my talk or not.

But the feedbacks were:
"If I need help, can I see you?"
"Good work Cikgu! Did you learn how to do the template by yourself or did you go for a workshop?"
"If I've already written my chapters, should I use the template in the chapters first and then combine it in the final template or the other way round?"

Guess I did a good job as my husband told me.

Things to be improved:
1. Need to have an example of a chapter with tables and figures for the students to work on.
2. Email the dropbox, the template and the chapters before coming to the workshop.
3. Only interested people are invited.
4. We need to charge them later, and further plans can't be written in this blog. hehe

Sharing is caring.
La yuhibbu ahadukum hatta yuhibba li akhiki ma yuhibbu li nafsih.

May Allah accept the sharing as one of our good deeds. Amiiiin.

3 SUPERVISORS

Assalamualaikum,
Last week, had gotten comments from my main supervisor.
She just corrected typo grammatical errors.
So just do correction to make my thesis more presentable.

Today, received comments from my lab supervisor.
So many comments to be swallowed.
So many improvements need to be done.
So many corrections to be corrected.
SubhanalLah..

O Allah...
Please Allah strengthen my body and soul to do my very best.
To produce my FIRST THESIS ever in my life!

When will I be getting comments from my idea provider supervisor, the last supervisor?

Oh Allah, please put me in the place that I'll be able to handle.

Please Allah, help me to accept criticsm because they are for me to make the best out of myself. Amiin.

p/s:I'm not strong to accept critics. It makes me so scared because I did so many mistakes. :( But, it's the time for me to change in this sacred month of Muharram 1433H! InsyaAllah. I can accept critics....
